Die Schwarzkümmelblume (Nigella sativa) ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Gattung Nigella innerhalb der Familie der Hahnenfußgewächse (Ranunculaceae). Sie stammt aus Westasien und Nordafrika. Es handelt sich um eine sehr alte Kulturpflanze, deren Samen bereits in der Antike als Gewürz und Heilmittel verwendet wurden (heutzutage nur noch als Gewürz).

For centuries, it has been used as a medicine in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It was used to treat respiratory, stomach, kidney, liver diseases, to strengthen the circulatory and immune system, as an anti-inflammatory, anesthetic, antiallergic, etc.
It was used in folk medicine to reduce bloating and increase the milk production of breastfeeding mothers.
