Mechanism of action
Simethicone is a physiologically neutral anti-foaming agent that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, enabling the bubbles to burst and be absorbed, thereby reducing gas formation, bloating, and abdominal discomfort. Simethicone is not absorbed and does not interact with the body. It is also used in the preparation of abdominal imaging studies (X-rays, ultrasound, and endoscopic procedures) to eliminate gas shadows that obscure the image.
