How does the Bi-flux filter element clean tap water?
The key element of the LAICA water filter jug is the replaceable Bi-flux filter cartridge.
The filter cartridge containing activated carbon and ion exchange resin filters tap water in 5 stages, resulting in healthier and tastier water for the users.
The activated carbon binds chlorine and its derivatives, pesticides, and organic contaminants, improves the taste of water, removes elements that cause bad odor and color. The ion exchange resin reduces the varying hardness of water, which causes limescale buildup and significantly reduces the content of heavy metals in water, if present.
Filtering approximately 1 liter of tap water takes only 4 minutes.
The Bi-flux filter cartridge used in the LAICA jug should be replaced every 30 days, or after filtering 150 liters of tap water (whichever comes first).
Why should the filter cartridge be replaced?
After filtering 150 liters, the filtration efficiency decreases and becomes less effective. After 30 days, the filter cartridge must be replaced to prevent possible bacterial growth, as inspected and approved by NNK, because bacteria can start spreading afterward.

Is reducing/eliminating water hardness good?
The hardness of drinking water is very important for the absorption of calcium and magnesium (water is a better carrier than other foods). Clinical studies endorsed by the World Health Organization and the Istituto Superiore di Sanita confirm that water containing calcium and magnesium salts (hardness) has a protective function in preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Does hardness lead to kidney stones?
No, this is a misconception. In fact, there is no connection between calcium, magnesium, and the occurrence of kidney stones.

No, the water from the source does not serve this purpose. In fact, heavy metals do not evaporate while chlorine evaporates, but their more dangerous derivatives, such as trihalomethanes, remain at the boiling point of water.
Why should the water filter jug be cleaned regularly?
The usual cleaning practices/principles applied to kitchen utensils should also be applied to the water filter jug (like dishes, glasses, pots, etc.), excluding the filter cartridge and the digital display.
Should the water filter be cleaned?
No, the water filter simply needs to be rinsed under running water (without using detergents) when the jug is washed.
If I go on vacation for a week or longer, and the filter cartridge has not reached the end of its useful life, how should it be stored?
We recommend rinsing the water filter jug with water and liquid detergent, rinsing the filter cartridge under running water, then dry it thoroughly, place it back in the jug, and store the jug in the refrigerator. Before reusing it, rinse the filter cartridge thoroughly under running water.
What is silver? Can it be dangerous?
Silver inhibits bacterial growth after chlorine removal.
Chlorine byproducts are harmful to health, while silver, when used in the right amount (according to WHO and Ministry of Health guidelines), is not harmful.
Why does the water flow slow down until it suddenly stops?
Sometimes air bubbles may form inside the filter cartridge and act as a "pressure plug" that prevents water flow. To promote normal filter operation, simply remove it from the throat, dip it in water (to cover the bubbles) for the bubbles to be released, then place it back in the throat.
Should the jug be stored in the refrigerator as instructed?
Like all food, water preserves its characteristics (sensory, pH, taste, and smell) more safely when stored at the usual refrigerator temperature. However, all microbiological analyzes performed at 22°C and 37°C according to the method indicated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanita confirm that there is no bacterial growth.
Why does filtered water sometimes turn gray/black?
A small amount of fine dust can be released from the granular carbon in the filter, which is NOT harmful to health and adheres to the plastic walls, making them darker. This does not in any way compromise the functionality and efficiency of the filter cartridge.
How long does the filter cartridge last, how many liters can it actually filter?
The useful life of the filter is 1 month / 150 liters, as indicated on the packaging. At the end of its useful life, it should not release the retained substances, but it will be less effective at reducing and absorbing unwanted substances.
Do filters also reduce the presence of limescale?
LAICA offers filters for drinking water that maintain the balance of salts and other minerals, which are used for tea, coffee, and kettles, instead of reducing hardness and thus preventing limescale in such appliances.
