About Almond Oil in more detail
Latin name: Prunus dulcis
Recommended use:
As a skin care and massage oil for all skin types
Production, cultivation, distribution
Almond oil (Amygdalae oleum raffinatum, Amygdalae oleum virginale) is extracted by pressing the fruits of the almond tree (Amygdalus communis), belonging to the rose family (Rosaceae), known for its sweet taste (sweet almond). Please note: essential oil is produced from bitter almonds and used in perfume making. Both native and hydrogenated almond oil (Amygdalae oleum virginale, Amygdalae oleum raffinatum) are official in the VIII. Hungarian Pharmacopoeia.
Composition, quality
The majority of almond oil is composed of two fatty acids (linoleic acid and oleic acid) which play an important role in protecting the skin and eliminating dryness.
Usage
Can be used as a general skin care product for infants and children. Almond oil is an important base oil for many massage oils and cosmetic products, and can also be used on its own to treat all skin types. It blends well with other specific oils with different compositions and effects (e.g. jojoba, wheat germ, macadamia). Usually, about 10-20% of these oils are added to almond oil used as a base oil.
