Do babies need extra hydration?
Babies' main food is breast milk up to 4-6 months, and in its absence, high-quality formula. So usually there is no need for separate fluid replacement until they are six months old, but there may be situations, especially on hot summer days, when breast milk alone is not able to properly hydrate the baby all day long. In such cases, UKKO Babytea can be an excellent supplemental fluid replacement, as it not only hydrates the babies but also replenishes the necessary minerals.
The pediatrician and the nurse decide whether to recommend infant hydration or not. For example, where we live, they suggest tea for infants from birth, such as to replace some nighttime breastfeeding sessions.
When our son Barni was born, they recommended giving him sweetened rosehip tea at night (" half sugar cube in 2dl weak rosehip tea " - that was the advice), which we believe is a bad and outdated solution in many ways.
When we asked for fruit pulp rosehip tea at the pharmacy, they looked at us with wide eyes because they didn't even understand the question. Unfortunately, almost all commercially available rosehip teas contain only rosehip shells, which are just for color and have no content.
On the other hand, sweetened teas can be extremely harmful to the baby. Firstly, they can damage the teeth before they even come out, secondly, they can accustom the baby to sweet, sugary tastes, which can cause problems later on, and thirdly, they can contribute to the child's future obesity.
We do not recommend sweetened teas or fruit juices for babies under 6 months old or older.
Babies deserve better than sugary drinks like sweet tea. We wanted to provide something for Barni that goes beyond water, something that aids digestion and boosts his immune system. This is how the idea of baby tea was born, which eventually materialized in this tea blend.
