It's time to face the fact that our prevailing human mindset does not provide answers to the physical and mental afflictions plaguing today's human. We must look not only through the lens of Darwin's evolution, but also at our contemporary human, who lives in increasingly severe discord with their physical and social environment. This discord essentially means that our psychological functions have evolved over millions of years to adapt to tribal life, and today this world is a far cry from that.
Failure, loneliness, unhappiness, and negative self-esteem all stem from thinking wrongly about ourselves and the world. The trap of self-esteem is self-esteem itself. The unsolvable problems would almost be missed if someone came and solved them once. Actually, no one has an interest in the solution. If there was a diet book that no one would gain weight back after, there would be no more diet foods and diet books to sell. And you couldn't 'slim down'. The world would be slimmer but a little grayer. Maybe the same goes for the problem of self-esteem.
