About Avocado Oil
Latin name: Persea gratissima
Recommended use:
For the care of dry and normal skin, for making massage oil
Production, cultivation, distribution
Avocado oil (Avocado oleum) is extracted from the seedless, pear-shaped or oval fruits of the avocado tree (Persea gratissima, syn. P. americana) belonging to the laurel family (Lauraceae) by pressing. The quantity of oil obtained can reach up to 30%.
Composition, quality
Freshly pressed oil is dense, greenish in color, but turns yellow after the refining process. The oil mainly contains esters of unsaturated fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, palmitoleic acid), which can reach a total of 80%. In addition to unsaturated fatty acid esters, a saturated fatty acid, palmitic acid ester, is also present in the oil, in quantities of 5-25%. Other noteworthy components of the oil are vitamins (e.g. Vitamin A) and phytosterols (e.g. beta-sitosterol).
Usage
Avocado oil is nourishing for the skin, helping to relieve dryness and enhance the skin's moisture-retaining ability. It is particularly recommended for caring for dry, dehydrated, and sensitive skin. It can be used on its own or blended with other base oils (such as almond, peanut, grape seed) to complement their effects in oily oil mixtures, or be used in skin and body care products in quantities of about 3-10%.
