Product Description
Chia seed (Salvia Hispanica). Chia is a plant belonging to the mint family, originally cultivated by the Aztecs in Mexico. Chia seeds offer a new food option to make our diet healthier when consumed regularly, as they contain a high percentage of Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, dietary fibers, minerals, and vitamins. Chia seeds are rich in calcium, as well as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, and manganese.
Chia seeds are virtually calorie-free, high in fiber, filling, and satisfying because they absorb water, form a thick gel, fill the stomach, and slow down the absorption of sugars into the body, making them ideal for dieters. The simplest way to consume chia seeds is to eat them raw. You can add the seeds to your morning cereal, muesli, or consume them on their own mixed into fruit juice, milk, yogurt, or kefir. As they have a mild nutty flavor when chewed, they can be added to almost anything. You can sprinkle the seeds on your salad, or add them to your sandwiches.
When it comes to desserts, chia seeds can be used in various puddings, smoothies, and desserts. Chia seeds can easily be turned into pudding as they absorb liquid and have a pleasant, gelatinous texture. Ground chia seeds can also be added to various pasta dishes as they are gluten-free and can be used as a substitute for flour. Some people even use a liquid-chia gel mixture as an egg replacement.
If you prefer not to incorporate chia seeds into meals, a simple way to use them is to make a chia fresca inspired by Mexicans. This involves soaking a teaspoon of seeds in fruit juice for about 10 minutes until they soften. Do not consume more than 15g of chia seeds per day!
